David Zinn and the Art of Whimsy

Every once in a while I like to share work that inspires and delights me.  David Zinn is an illustrator and street artist who has been creating original artwork in and around Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA since 1987.

David’s temporary street art is composed entirely of chalk, charcoal and found objects, and is always improvised on location. Most of these drawings have appeared on sidewalks in Ann Arbor and elsewhere in Michigan, but some have surfaced as far away as subway platforms in Manhattan and construction debris in the Sonoran Desert.

I like David's work in part due to its whimsy which somehow resonates with my memories.  Two of my favourite characters are Sluggo, a bright green monster with stalk eyes and irreverent habits, and Philomena, a mythical flying pig.

Here are some samples of his work.  If you like them, I encourage you to check out his site at zinnart.com and take a peek at his extensive body of work.
